Class syllabus
The attached syllabus contains general information about the course, expectations, assignments and deadlines. The projects listed in the Breadth section of the syllabus are sample drawing projects; some of the projects may change from year to year but will address the same concepts and skills.
Each of you will have a sketchbook that you will use throughout the school year to draw, plan, visualize, write, doodle and relax. You can use your sketchbook to record your ideas and improve your artistic skills. Your sketchbook is primarily a tool to help you think, plan and practice, not a place to create perfect images or portfolio pieces (although if you happen to develop some of your sketches into portfolio-quality pieces you may certainly include them). You will be starting the school year with a list of 20 very specific sketchbook assignments (attached below). These assignments are designed to give you practice with a variety of drawing skills, concepts, subjects and media. After this group of sketches is completed the rest of your sketchbook assignments will be self-selected--you will choose subjects, materials, ideas etc. that will be helpful to you as you develop the Breadth and Concentration sections of your AP portfolio.
